Truth and Life

“It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing,” Jesus said. “The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

—John 6:63, 14:6 (NKJV)

The flesh profits us nothing. We can’t earn our way to the Father. Jesus is the way to the Father. He earned the way to the Father with His life. No one comes to the Father unless they believe in Jesus.

Why do we try to come to God on our own merit—on our own good works? They buy us nothing. Do we sometimes try to do more so we will receive in return? Do we believe if we do enough, God will finally answer our prayers? If we beg God enough, He will finally respond? If we give enough to God, God will give to us? Our works earn us nothing. When we try to purchase what Christ has already purchased for us with His life, our works have no life. They are born of ourselves instead of born of faith in the finished work of Christ.

We come to the Father based on Christ’s finished work of Grace. We don’t come in fear. We come in faith. We don’t come in our lack. We come in His fullness. We come believing what Christ has purchased for us and who we are as a result. We come secure in our identity in Him. We come to the Father accepted by His Grace. We come as His chosen purchase (Ephesians 1:4-6). And as His chosen purchase, we come to Him as heirs to the Kingdom of God (Romans 8:17, Ephesians 3:6). What is His is also ours. We come knowing and believing what is ours in Christ—that God supplies all our needs according to what Christ has purchased for us (Philippians 4:19)

We received the finished work of Jesus within us when we believed in Him. We received His complete work of Grace. The Kingdom of God lives within us now (Luke 17:21). We live in His fullness when we believe what His Word reveals is ours. The Kingdom of God living within us is not about us being good enough. It is all about His perfect work. We have an abundant relationship with God now (John 10:10). Jesus, the Word, lives within us. And the Word is truth and life.

“Have you not known? Have you not heard? Has it not been told you from the beginning? Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth” (Isaiah 40:21, NKJV)?

You have received a Kingdom that cannot be shaken (Hebrews 12:28). Seek to know what Christ has purchased for you—His Kingdom that lives in you. Allow the Holy Spirit to renew your mind with God’s Word of life and truth. Make His truth your own. (Romans 12:2). And believe in your heart that you are His new creation (Romans 10:10, 2 Corinthians 5:17). Trust in the finished work of Grace that is yours.

His Words are truth. They are life.
