His Word and His Work

Let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.

—Galatians 6:9 (NKJV)

When we let our feelings direct our lives, it is easy to lose heart. It is easy to grow weary when we allow our feelings to dictate our actions instead of following the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Feeling good about something the Holy Spirit leads us to do isn’t always the case. Feeling comfortable and accepted isn’t always the case.

The enemy doesn’t like it when you are following God’s plan for your life. He attacks with uncertainty and doubt. He tries to stir up fear and tells you that you are out of God’s will. The enemy uses anything—from other people to circumstances—to make you lose heart and give up in defeat. Where the Holy Spirit leads you, He is with you. He empowers you through times when even those closest to you may not understand. Don’t think when you follow God’s heart it is always going to be easy. But if you will trust His heart instead of your own, you will reap when the time is right.

Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise.

—Hebrews 10:35-36 (NKJV)

Without confidence, it is hard to endure. To have confidence, you trust that God who has called you is faithful to do the work He has given you. When you doubt, you have made the work yours. It is not your work. It is His work. It is not your responsibility. It is His responsibility. Your responsibility is to allow the Holy Spirit to work through you. Your confidence is where the enemy attacks. You must stand and fight the good fight of faith. Don’t lose your confidence. Persevere in faith, and don’t give up believing His promise. When you persevere in following the Holy Spirit and deny your own feelings, you receive His promise.

It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.

—John 6:63 (NKJV)

Your fleshly worries and concerns and doubts and fears profit you nothing. Any work born of them doesn’t achieve anything. Only the Holy Spirit gives life. The words that He speaks to you are His words. They aren’t your words. His words are spirit, and they are life.

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.

—Jeremiah 29:11-13 (ESV)

Your feelings will keep you from His plan and promise for your life. Your feelings will try to make you lose heart. But His truth is greater than your feelings. His Word is spirit and life. It is His truth. Seek Him, and you will find Him. The Holy Spirit accomplishes His truth in you.

Your words were found, and I ate them,

And Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart;

For I am called by Your name,

O Lord God of hosts.

—Jeremiah 15:16 (NKJV)
