Seeing Jesus Spiritually

Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.

—1 John 3:2

Consider the last part of this verse: “We shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.”Does this verse say that we are like what we see?

Jesus said this:

“The lamp of the body is the eye. Therefore, when your eye is good, your whole body also is full of light. But when your eye is bad, your body also is full of darkness” (Luke 11:34)

Paul said, “While we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal” (2 Corinthians 4:18).

Think about these verses, and pray about these thoughts:

When we see Jesus with our spiritual eyes, we are like Him. Our eyes are good. But we don’t see the good when we focus on our problems. Our eyes are bad. We must focus on God’s eternal promises that are not seen rather than the things that are seen. We can’t ignore our circumstances, but in focusing on Jesus, we can see our problems with His understanding. As we center our hearts on Jesus, we are like Him in our circumstances. We will have the mind of Christ, God’s wisdom, and the faith and patience to direct us through any hardship. However, when all we see are our problems, we will become like them. We will trust our own understanding and strength instead of trusting His.

To be as Jesus is in this world (1 John 4:17) and not know it renders us powerless. Spiritually seeing Jesus makes us like Him.

Do you see Jesus, or do you only see your physical circumstances?  As you think in your heart, you are (Proverbs 23:7).  You have eternity in your heart. See with His eyes and not your own.
