The Holy Spirit Living in Us

But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.

—1 Corinthians 2:9,10

People often find themselves grappling with uncertainty, such as determining right from wrong and making decisions that align with God’s will. Well-intentioned individuals sometimes tell them, “Sometimes you can’t understand what God wants for you.” They even cite 1 Corinthians 2:9, asserting that the Bible states, “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those that love him.” They declare that even the Bible recognizes our inability to always comprehend God’s plans for us.

The apostle Paul didn’t intend to convey that point when he quoted Isaiah 64:4. Paul cited Isaiah’s Old Covenant declaration, “Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them,” to prepare us for the transformative power of the New Covenant he was about to share in the next verse. In 1 Corinthians 2:10, Paul wrote, “But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.” We are no longer hindered from seeing, perceiving, or comprehending what God has in store for us. The Holy Spirit serves as our guide, revealing God’s plan for us.

The word “prepared” in 1 Corinthians 2:9 originates from the Greek word “etoimadzo,” which signifies being fully prepared and thoughtfully conceived by God. This emphasizes the fact that God has a divine plan for each of our lives and is ready to reveal it to us. God’s plan for us is not a mere coincidence. Instead, He has been diligently designing a plan for our lives since the dawn of time.

Under the Old Covenant, the Holy Spirit didn’t dwell within the human heart, making it difficult for individuals to discern God’s plan. In their pursuit of understanding His will, they sought out signs and even consulted prophets to gain divine guidance. Since they lacked the presence of the Holy Spirit within their hearts, they remained unaware of much of what had been provided for them.

Many Christians continue to live as if they were under the veil of the Old Covenant. This is particularly disheartening when one considers that Christians possess the Holy Spirit within their hearts, providing them with all the guidance and direction they could ever require. However, due to a lack of spiritual awareness and the inability to discern the voice of the Holy Spirit, they persist in believing that they cannot comprehend God’s will. Consequently, they look for external signs and resort to seeking advice from others rather than seeking God’s direction.

We don’t need to struggle to know God’s plans. We need to actively seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit and listen to what He has to say. He will tell us everything we need to know to walk in the fullness of God’s plan for our lives.

In 1 Corinthians 2:10, the Greek word “apokalupsis,” which is commonly translated as “revelation,” signifies something that has been hidden for a long time and suddenly becomes clear and visible. Imagine pulling back the curtains to see the real scene that has been veiled from you. It has been there all the time, but you didn’t know it. The moment you see beyond the curtain for the first time and discover what has been there all along but was not evident to you is what the Word declares a revelation.

There was a time when man was unable to perceive, hear, or imagine the incredible wonders God had prepared for those who love Him. These wonders had been concealed from view. However, when Jesus ascended and the Holy Spirit descended, one of the primary roles of the Spirit became the removal of the veil that obstructs our perception of God. This allows our eyes to see, our ears to hear, and our hearts to fully comprehend the unique plans God has designed for each of us.

The time of not knowing what God has prepared for us is over, as declared in 1 Corinthians 2:10. The Holy Spirit now resides within our hearts, eager to reveal God’s blessings, promises, provisions, and plans to us.

Living right within your heart is the greatest source of revelation, the Holy Spirit, who searches the deepest aspects of God’s wisdom. By cultivating spiritual sensitivity and learning to listen to His voice, you can uncover everything God has meticulously planned for your life. His revelations will empower you to become the person God has designed and destined you to be.
