Move Toward Your Healing

And suddenly, a woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years came from behind and touched the hem of His garment. For she said to herself, “If only I may touch His garment, I shall be made well.”
—Matthew 9:20-21
 
This woman in Matthew 9 didn’t stand still. She moved to receive her healing. She didn’t just hope for the Master to heal her. She believed if she touched the hem of Jesus’ garment she would receive healing.
 
Jesus didn’t release healing to this woman. He felt it go out of Him because she drew her healing from Him. Jesus told her that her faith had made her well. For twelve years she had tried every avenue she could think of to find healing. And then she heard of Jesus and believed beyond her physical ailment. 
 
How many times do we allow physical issues, a sense of unworthiness, doubt, fear, or the opinions of others to keep us from reaching by faith to Jesus? Jesus healed according to what faith was present in each person (Matthew 9:20-22, Matthew 9:28-30, Matthew 8:7-13). He often asked questions of those seeking healing to stir their faith so they could receive.
 
Do you know that the Holy Spirit tries to motivate us to exercise our faith? God doesn’t want us consumed with illness, circumstances, or distress, but, rather, consumed with the Truth of His Word. 
 
Jesus asked a question of the man who had waited for years for healing at the pool of Bethesda (John 5:1-8). Jesus asked him if he wanted to be healed. Jesus wasn’t going to go against anyone’s will. He stood right before this man, but the man still had to believe that he could be healed. It’s almost like Jesus was saying, “Do you believe I can do this?”
                     
Christ, your healer, lives in you. The healing you need is within you in the person of Jesus. But like the man at the pool of Bethesda, sometimes we look for healing in other places instead of in Christ.
 
The woman who touched His garment had tried other places for healing, too. But she had come to the point where she was absolutely convinced that just touching the hem of His garment would set her free. The man at Bethesda had placed his faith for healing for years in the stirring of the waters. But he had no one to help him into the water in time. That was the only way he had envisioned his healing. Now here was the answer for His healing standing right in front of him, asking him if he wanted to be well.
 
The two blind men in Matthew 9:28-30 were told by Jesus that they would receive healing according to their faith. In Matthew 8:7-13, Jesus told the centurion that his faith had healed his servant. Faith is always the key ingredient to receive healing. The grace of Jesus calls for our response. We reach by faith for healing. We move toward it, and we receive with the same measure of faith it took to receive salvation. We sow that measure of faith in God’s Word and allow His Truth to transform our mind until we believe in our heart that He wants us well. 
 
“My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words. Don’t lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart, for they bring life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body” (Proverbs 4:20-22, NLT).
 
Healing begins in your mind. When His Word transforms your thoughts to believe in your heart the Truth that “by His stripes you were healed (1 Peter 2:24),” the stirring of healing begins. Confident faith begins to grow.
 
“Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him” (1 John 5:14-15).
 
“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers” (3 John 1:2).
 
It is God’s will for us to be in health. Move toward your healing. Let your soul prosper in the Word. His Word will prosper healing in you.
