Surely, He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, everyone, to his own way; and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.
—Isaiah. 53:4-6
What beautiful words the Spirit of God inspired Isaiah to write! The Spirit revealed the depth of God’s love for mankind. It was such a profound love that God was willing to give His Son, and the Son was willing to give Himself to restore us to our original place of fellowship with Him.
Jesus understood our grief, sickness, pain, and sorrow. He understood the destructive power of sin, which created darkness and suffering for humanity. Not only did He understand, but He came to prove His love and compassion for the hurting.
But He didn’t come only to touch man’s need. He came to take upon Himself the curse of our separation from God and all its manifestations. He took the iniquity of every person on earth and who would ever be conceived. He took our physical pain and sicknesses. He took our depression, sadness, and fears. He took the total weight of every curse of sin. The truth is He became a curse and our sin as He hung on the cross (Galatians 3:13).
“Surely,” He has born our griefs and carried our sorrows. Surely means “confidently, assuredly, decidedly, indisputably, boldly, securely, and absolutely.” You cannot dispute the absolute truth of Isaiah’s prophecy fulfilled in Jesus. Nothing can change it. It is done. It is finished.
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,” Jesus said on the day He revealed He had come to fulfill God’s Word. “Because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord” (Luke 4:18-19).
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest,” He says to us (Matthew 11:28).
The Gospel is the power to save, heal, and deliver us. The invitation is for each of us. Rest and peace are for all. Healing is for all. Deliverance from every trauma and grief is for all. Jesus did this for you.
Take time to let your spirit feed on Isaiah 53:4-6. Do you hear Him speaking to you? Do you see Him healing you? Let Him restore you and give you life, peace, and joy.
How do you know you’ve honestly heard God’s Word? It effectively works in those who believe it.
“For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe” (1 Thessalonians 2:13).
Do you welcome the Word as truth with the power to work in your life effectively?
You know you have indeed heard the Word when it stimulates your faith.
“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17).
When you truly hear the Gospel, it stimulates your faith and changes you. The faith with which the Gospel saved you is the same faith that receives your healing and restoration. The Gospel you “hear” heals you of sin and all its destruction (Psalm 107:20).
Jesus took the curse to heal your broken heart, proclaim your freedom from sin and its oppression, and open your spiritual eyes to see, spiritual ears to hear, and spiritual understanding so you can receive healing (13:14-15). The words He speaks to you are spirit, and they are life (John 6:63).

Lord, I hide Your Word in my heart. I will not forget it. I will live and keep Your Word. Quicken and strengthen me according to Your Word, Lord. Let Your mercies come into my life. According to Your Word, let Your salvation, healing, and restoration come to me.
Forever, O Lord, Your Word is settled in heaven. I trust in your Word, Lord. Your Word has quickened me. Be merciful unto me according to Your Word.
How sweet are your Words! Your Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. Uphold me according to Your Word, that I may live. The entrance of Your Words into my heart gives light! It gives understanding to the simple. Your Word is very pure, Lord. Therefore, I love it. My heart stands in awe of Your Word. The moment I hear it, I rejoice at Your Word. I have found the greatest treasure.
Give me understanding, Lord, according to Your Word. I will hear you speaking and quickening my heart. Deliver me according to Your word. You are my God, and I praise you for Your Word, which you have sent to set me free and heal me of all of sin’s destruction. Your Word shall accomplish its purpose in my life.
In Jesus’ trusted and undeniably powerful name,
Amen.
