Fire Me for Joy

Let me hear of your unfailing love each morning, for I am trusting you. Show me where to walk, for I give myself to you.
—Psalm 143:8 (NLT)

No matter what I face each day, Lord, the first thing I long to experience is your unfailing love for me each morning. The first thing I want to hear each morning is you, Lord, speaking above the troubling call of my day—encouraging beyond the worry that attempts to claim me. I hush the call of fear rising in my mind. This is my time with you and not with the voice of defeat that speaks before my day has even begun. I silence it for I am trusting you. I have chosen you, and I have placed my faith in you. Nothing can happen this day that you have not allowed for your greatest purpose in my life. Lord, if my attitude is one of expectancy that I shall learn greater character this day, then I shall find in what comes, a joy that has been fired to be lasting and strong.

“These trials will show that your faith is genuine,” Peter writes. “It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world” (1 Peter 1:7, NLT).

“When troubles of any kind come your way,” James also imparts, “consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing” (James 1:2-4, NLT).

No matter what happens today, Lord, I wish for this day to prove my faith is genuine and my joy is overflowing. I look to you to show me where to walk. I give myself to you for your purpose. Fire me for joy. Perfect in me your best.
