Jesus told them, “This is the only work God wants from you: Believe in the one he has sent.”
Quit striving. Just believe in Jesus. All things are possible when you believe. Peace and rest are real when you have faith. Power and strength are yours when you trust Him. The only work God desires from you is to believe in His Son whom He sent to die for your sins—to believe in the new life He has bought you. All He asks is for you to believe in Him. When your efforts (works) are born of self, anything you strive to do is never good enough in your eyes. You not only judge your own efforts but find yourself judging those of others. When born of His Spirit all things are possible, and any work for Him is an overflow of the grace He won for you.
At Calvary, Jesus had mercy on you. While you were yet in sin, He, who was free from sin, took your sin to the Cross. He paid your debt. He set you free. Jesus always sees you through the unconditional love He gave for you. He continually intercedes on your behalf to His Father. To Jesus, you are righteous—blameless in His sight. In your view, you can never do enough to be good enough. Just believe in the Savior He has sent. His grace is a free gift. Offered without hesitation for you, that gift cost Him everything. He thought you were worth it, or He wouldn’t have given His life. When you grasp the magnitude of His amazing grace—His gift of righteousness for your sin—you are transformed in the way you see, hear, and understand. You no longer perceive with the natural mind. You perceive His truth with the fullness of His grace. Just believe. He believes in you.
