Sin, sickness, pain, and misfortune are so normal in this fallen world that we are inclined to expect them. We often allow our lives to be shaped by their possibilities. When we approach life with these kinds of expectations, we end up living in fear. However, we have the power to shift our mindset from fear to hope and faith in God's promises. The anticipation of distressing earthly issues is not good soil for our faith to flourish, but with a hopeful and faithful mindset, our faith can see beyond what happens around us.
“He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love” (Colossians 1:3).
We may physically live in this fallen world, but the Father has delivered us out of the power of the control of darkness. He has transferred us from this earthly existence into the Kingdom of His beloved Son. We are no longer under the power and dominion of darkness. We don’t have to live by turbulent emotions. We are now safe and secure in the light of Christ. We don’t have to have an outlook of doom, despair, and agony. We don’t have to be consumed with the fear of a falling stock market, sickness, or any other upsetting problem. We have the peace and power of the Kingdom. We can have an attitude of hope, joy, and promise that is ours in Christ.
A Kingdom attitude looks beyond the darkness of this world into the life and heart of God’s love. Faith that overcomes fear begins with the revelation that you are delivered from the power of darkness and now live in God’s blessed domain. Your position in Jesus gives you access to God, His favor, promises, and delivering power. You can come boldly to Him in your time of need and know He will provide for you out of the abundance of His riches in glory (Hebrews 14:16, Philippians 4:19).
“…by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust” (2 Peter 1:4).
The Kingdom of God is within you (Luke 17:21). As a believer in Jesus Christ, you have been given exceedingly great and precious promises while the darkness of the world is saturated in corruption. You are partakers in Christ’s divine nature. You are joined to God in Him. He is in you, and you are in Him. Once your mind and heart agree with the truth of your new identity in Christ, your expectation changes from the fear of potential loss to the courageous expectation of God’s increase. This attitude is fertile soil for faith to grow.
The answer to living in the light of Christ instead of the darkness of this fallen world is found in our spiritual vision. We have to envision ourselves with the new identity we have received in our born-again spirits. Our new identity in Christ must renew the thoughts and attitudes of our minds and hearts. Some believers never learn to see spiritually. They only see with their natural vision what they lack instead of seeing the exceedingly great and precious promises of their salvation. All they see is their situation or sickness or need, and they never escape the corruption of darkness.
Look at how Jesus described this:
“The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore, your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore, the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!” (Matthew 6:22-23).
If you see God’s hope, favor, and promise, your whole body—spirit, soul, and body—will be full of the light of Jesus. But if you only see your bad situation, illness, or lack, you will be consumed with darkness and destruction.
“The entrance of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple” (Psalm 119:130).
Jesus is the true light. And His light dispels the false darkness of this world.
You can receive His spiritual understanding. All it takes is faith as simple as a child’s simple uncluttered faith. God sent His Word to heal and deliver you from destruction (Psalms 107:20). When Jesus, the Word, enters your mind and heart, He illuminates your understanding.
Do you see darkness or light? Are you fixated on the potential for loss or the promise of God’s increase in your life?
“As he thinks in his heart, so is he” (Proverbs 23:7).
What do you think in your heart? What you see will determine the extent of your victory.
