“Clearly, you are a letter from Christ showing the result of our ministry among you,” Paul wrote. “This 'letter’ is written not with pen and ink, but with the Spirit of the living God. It is carved not on tablets of stone, but on human hearts” (2 Corinthians 3:3, NLT).
You are a “letter” carved by the Spirit of the living God. At Calvary, Jesus imprinted His righteousness upon your heart. He imparted it to you when you accepted Him as your Savior. Your heart beats and pulsates with His life. It is no longer a heart of stone which fears the judgment of the law—which tries to hide behind masks from not being good enough. Your old stony heart dissolved the moment Jesus died for you.
“And I will give you a new heart,” God said. “and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart” (Ezekiel 36:26, NLT). God gave you a new heart when He gave you Jesus. You couldn’t meet the requirements of law carved on stone. Only Jesus had the perfect innocence to meet those requirements. Jesus ripped the veil that separated you from a holy God and gave you access to God’s presence. Your stony, stubborn heart discovered joyful freedom, or did it? Are you still imprisoned by shame and a need to make things right with God? Jesus has already made you right with God!
“To this day whenever the old covenant is being read,” Paul wrote, “the same veil covers their minds so they cannot understand the truth. And this veil can be removed only by believing in Christ” (2 Corinthians 3:14, NLT). Do you see how the "letter" of the law kills, but the Spirit gives life?
Don’t allow the veil Jesus removed to cover your mind so you cannot understand His truth. Believe in Jesus, and the new life He has given you! You don’t need to do this or do that perfectly to win God’s acceptance! He is your merciful and loving God—your Abba father. You are righteous because of the precious love of Jesus.
“Whenever someone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away,” Paul continued, “for the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom” (2 Corinthians 3:17, NLT). You are free. Live by faith in the freedom Jesus purchased for you. Don't try to earn what is free. It is His gift—not your job. Trying to earn what He has freely given emphasizes you and not Him.
“All of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord,” Paul wrote. “And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image" (2 Corinthians 3:18, NLT). The veil is gone! Never fear to look into the mirror of Jesus' love for you. You behold Him! Jesus wants you to see who He has made you. You are no longer separated by judgment or ruled by fear, but thoroughly forgiven and set free by Grace.
