Eternal life is our unending assurance. Christ promises we will live with Him forever. And that promise is something that gives the greatest hope when someone we love passes on. Each of us has someone we love who is in heaven with God. Just knowing that this is not goodbye forever, comforts us in our loss.
“Christ died for us so that, whether we are dead or alive when he returns, we can live with him forever. So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing” (1 Thessalonians 5:10-11 (NLT).
Paul writes in these verses, encouraging believers to build each other up so they will be ready for Christ’s return. But we can also encourage those we love when they are going through a loss. We reassure them with the love of Jesus.
Did your loved one keep you laughing? Don’t ever forget it. “God blesses you who weep now, for in due time you will laugh” (Luke 6:21, NLT). Hold on to the joy they brought. You will know their laughter again one day.
