He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
— Hebrews 11:6b
This is a new year with new opportunities. Perhaps you didn’t accomplish what you believed the Lord had for you last year. If you have repented for what you didn’t accomplish, forget your failure. If you haven’t repented, do so right now and let it go! Don’t dwell continuously on it. Doing so keeps it foremost in your mind and robs you of accomplishing anything for the Lord this year! As Paul writes in Philippians 3, you must intentionally press on with the determination to achieve your upward call in Jesus Christ.
Some people never see their goals accomplished because they start something and then give up. Others get involved in too many things and are divided and distracted. But Hebrews 11:6 says that God “is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” When we search for God with our whole heart, we find Him (Jeremiah 29:13). When we intentionally seek Him, He rewards our efforts.
If you know something God has called you to accomplish, you must be determined to press on until you fully accomplish His task. You need diligence to carry you through the thick of the thin of hardship. Diligence is necessary to see any idea, vision, or calling come to life.
“But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6.)
According to Hebrews 11:6, without faith, we cannot please God. Those who come to God believing Him by faith and seeking His will shall eventually be rewarded with diligence!
“Diligently seek” in Hebrews 11:6 comes from the Greek word “ekzeteo.” “Ek” means “out,” and “zeteo” means “to seek.” Together, they mean “to seek out.” The way this word is used in Hebrews 11:6 means to passionately seek something with all your heart, mind, and strength. “Ekzeteo” expresses someone conscientious, attentive, unrelenting, and devoted to their task.
If you take God’s idea or vision lightly and approach it with an easygoing attitude, you will never fulfill your calling. Succeeding in anything meaningful takes dedicated hard work. Complaining won’t make the job any easier. In fact, if you are complaining, you have already decided that pressing toward God’s upward call is just too exhaustive for you. If we are serious about doing what God has called us to do, we must press on and follow through just as Jesus pressed on and followed through for us. If we want to see our dreams fulfilled, we must give our full attention to what God has called us to do. It must have our undivided mental and spiritual consideration.
We don’t have time for bad attitudes and wrong thinking when we pursue God's desires. To remain diligent, we must be entirely focused and involved. We must exercise our faith, pray, and meditate on God’s purpose. It will take all our focus and energy to accomplish what the Lord has birthed in us. This is part of what it means to be diligent.
Consistency is another quality found in diligence. To pursue our God-given dreams, we must be constant and consistent. Changeable, unpredictable behavior will never produce the fulfillment of God’s will. We need consistency and determination to overcome the powers of hell and achieve victory. If we vacillate in and out of faith, we will never gain anything lasting for God’s Kingdom. We must remain constant, determined, fixed, focused, steadfast, and faithful to produce anything that endures.
Persistence is also a quality of diligence. When someone is persistent, failure is not an option. He refuses to give up, is secure when faced with opposition, and is uncompromising in his objective. Resisting opposition and defying hardship is necessary to walk in faith. We must be persistent to withstand any attempt to terminate God’s vision. This kind of commitment is essential to see God’s calling accomplished before it has even been fulfilled.
God rewards hard-working, dedicated, constant, and persistent people in their pursuit of seeking Him. You can never haphazardly reach the end of the spiritual race God has given you. That race needs all your focus, dedication, and energy to complete. Diligence is essential for you to reach victory.
The gifts and callings of God are irrevocable (Romans 11:29). God’s calling in your life is constant. He is consistent, dedicated, and gives all His energy to you. Are you on track to accomplish what God has asked of you? Are you diligently seeking Him and His will for your life?
Welcome to a new year.
