Captivated by God's Truth

“The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:4-5).

Do you have a stronghold in your life? You will most likely fight one at sometime. A stronghold is a lie that comes against God's truth. It is an argument which may at first appear as truth, but when it holds you tight, you are bound to its lie. You are unable to make your mind focus on God's truth, and His promises for your life. You yearn to experience freedom from that stronghold's strangling grip, but your mind is bound up in what the enemy wants you to perceive and ultimately believe. Instead of experiencing God's love and what He wishes to impart to your mind and heart, you are held fast by your stronghold. You are captive to its lie.

We are instructed in 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 to take every thought captive. Your weapons to tear down your stronghold are found in God's Word. Your weapons have divine power. Their purpose is to take your thoughts captive by God's truth. If you don't want your mind to be held captive by your stronghold, then your mind needs to be captivated by the Word of God. You overcome a lie with truth. Whether your stronghold is an addiction or unforgiveness or feelings of rejection or despair over a loss or whatever stronghold binds you, freedom from its grasp is found in the God's truth. His truth is His Word, and praying His Word...praying His truth...will destroy strongholds in your life.

If you don't know what to even call your stronghold and where to find Scripture to battle it, I suggest Beth Moore's book, “Praying God's Word.” My daughter gave it to me years ago, and it has been invaluable. It can help you identify what holds your mind and heart in bondage. But it is not her book that sets you free. It is just a tool (and there are other tools like “The Battlefield of the Mind” by Joyce Meyer). None of these have any power to set you free from your bondage. Only God's Word has that power. Pray His Word. He gives you the power through its truth (which claims your mind) to destroy your stronghold.

Be captivated by God's truth. Be captivated by its power. You are an over-comer because of it. Find freedom and experience His joy. Pray His Word.
