Let your gentle spirit [your graciousness, unselfishness, mercy, tolerance,
and patience] be known to all people. The Lord is near. —Philippians
4:5 (AMP)
What comprises a gentle spirt? Graciousness. Patience.
Mercy. Compassion. Kindness. Calmness. Endurance. Humbleness. Love. Grace.
Forgiveness. Generosity. And this list is endless when you are filled with the
Holy Spirit. Share these things, Paul writes. Live them. Breathe them. The Lord
is close to you. Not just coming soon, but close to you now—living in you.
Having a gentle spirit is really the power of the
Holy-Spirit controlling your life and giving you the strength to conquer self. All
things are possible when the all-powerful God is Lord of your life—when self
has been denied and placed on the altar.
Have you tried again and again to live these things
and fallen flat? Self-reliance is the issue—living on your own strength—putting
yourself before the Lord. If you daily lay down your desires, you will learn
the Lord honors your submissive spirit with not only the power of His gentleness,
but with His insight and wisdom.
The fruit of the Spirit is only real in your life when
it is exercised. When exercised, He becomes who you are and guides your life. Never forget that He lives in you, but He can’t
if you don’t make room.
