For you are God, O Sovereign Lord. Your words are truth, and
you have promised these good things to your servant. And now, may it please you
to bless the house of your servant, so that it may continue forever before you.
For you have spoken, and when you grant a blessing to your servant, O Sovereign
Lord, it is an eternal blessing.
—2 Samuel 7:28-29
How often in the midst of turmoil or crisis do the blessings
God sends to encourage go unrecognized? We
become so wrapped up in fear and misery that we forget what the psalmist wrote.
”Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life”
(Psalm 23:6a NLT). Not only does He grant blessings which we do not perceive, He
pursues us with an unfailing love that we often ignore.
His Word is truth. He has promised good things to His
children, and they are continually bestowed. Emotional pain can create a
blindness to His constant and unfailing goodness. Ignoring the care of so great
a promise of salvation not only leaves our hearts unattended, but our minds
open to the attack of the enemy. And when that attack comes, the fears that
consume grow in size and power. A stronghold is born.
Where am I in the time of my hardship? Where are you? He has promised good things to
His servant. He wants your spiritual life to prosper in His care. He promises abundant
life no matter your circumstances. His eternal blessing is real. When you love
and serve Him in the midst of your pain, you recognize the blessings that He
sends to encourage. When you offer His love past the pain of your heart, you
flourish. You realize power strengthening you, and His hand guiding you. When
you continually reach past your circumstance to love with His love, you climb
the wall of your stronghold and destroy the lie of the enemy you have trusted.
Open your spiritual eyes. Look past the pain of your circumstances,
and pursue as you have been pursued. See His blessings. They are real. They
follow you all the days of your life, and you will live in the house of the Lord—forever.
