He Asks

Dress yourselves in humility as you relate to one another, for God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.  So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor.
—1 Peter 5:5b-6 NLT

God calls you to become less for the sake of someone else. When you submit your will—when you submit your right—when you lay down your desire for His, He gives you His grace to empower what He asks you to do. This verse says that you are to “dress” yourself. That implies choice. You choose to be humble as you work to live out His love in your human relationships. For the sake of someone He is trying to help, God may ask you to do something that you feel belittles you. Become what is needed. Jesus belittled himself for you.  When you choose to humble yourself under His mighty Hand, your heart is pliable and soft. He can direct and lead you as He wishes. When you choose to humble yourself for His purpose, you have all His power within your grasp. Are you ready to become less in someone’s eyes so they might know that you, too, are in need of a Savior? Humble your heart, your mind, and spirit to His loving grace. You can do anything He asks you to do in His power. His grace is enough to bear the weight. And at the perfect time He will lift you up and honor you.
